I have setup a few for schools using the .edu.au domain, for Derby DHS, Comet Bay College and recently Albany SHS. I have found a way to set all of this up without requiring any hosting services.
The Process several steps and takes 1 day to become active with 10 users, then about 2 weeks for Google to approve the full Education account normally with 2,000 users.
- It involves registering the domain name with domainname.edu.au who charge $99 biannually.
- The process requires the setting up of the name servers and DNS records for Google Apps to work.
- This can be done and still allow your web site to work if you use the domain to host a web site.
- The Google Apps account needs to be setup and approved.
- The Staff and Student accounts need to be setup by importing name lists.
